Prohibition in Port Jeff is Pretty Good

Recently over the summer, I had the fun opportunity of finally getting together with my friends on a Saturday to partake in a late brunch/lunch randomly together.  We somehow all decided on Prohibition located in Port Jefferson, NY was the spot to be that day, and I was pleasantly satisfied with going here.

Prohibition has a small, quaint but cozy vibe to it, with a bar in the center of the main part of the restaurant, decorated with drinks and surrounded by a giant sign saying “Boozy” with a bicycle serving as a part of the word in the center.

I would consider the food at Prohibition to be somewhat New American with sandwiches, burgers, brunch items, and appetizers such as wings, spinach and artichoke dip, and more serving as their primary food sources, combined with custom cocktails.

Starting off for an appetizer I was able to try their Spinach and Artichoke Dip which was house made. I really enjoyed how nutty the cheese was due to there being gouda cheese inside of the dip. The Pita Chips paired amazingly too; a little thick and crispy to absorb the dip and provide a nice crunch.

For drinks, I got an expresso martini. I’ll details because everyone is probably very familiar with how an expresso martini tastes and the structure with no real explanation, so I’ll just say it was pretty good.

We all know what this is

The main drink of the day which blew me away was their Butterbeer cocktail, which consisted of vanilla vodka, butterscotch schnapps, and cream soda. It was garnished with whipped cream, butterscotch chips, and a cinnamon stick, all in a tulip glass.

I am assuming that this drink is named after Harry potter’s Butterbeer which I am not too familiar with as I haven’t watched it before, but this drink had me hooked and maybe has me becoming a fan of the series at some point. This cocktail is dangerously good, it’s incredibly easy to drink down too. You can faintly taste the alcohol combined with the cream soda, but the carbonation and general sweetness of the drink makes it extremely easy to drink very fast. It’s deliciously sweet and refreshing, yet not overly sweet. Hands down best drink of the day so far, and I’d have ordered it again if I wasn’t already three drinks deep.

Prohibition has a Brunch Menu that is only available on Saturday and Sunday from 11-3pm. Luckily, I was able to grab a Steak Breakfast Burrito from the Brunch Menu, with a side of fries. The fries were crunchy and airy inside and seasoned well with salt. The burrito itself was decently sized, and I appreciated how there was a decent amount of thin seasoned meat inside of the burrito compared to the cheese, rice and eggs.

If you aren’t feeling a burrito for the day, Prohibition has a great Steak and Cheese Hero piled with sauteed onion and a truffle garlic aioli on a garlic hero that smells amazing.

I didn’t get a chance to try other things due to them being my friend’s plates and me not asking to try stuff and be intrusive. but the chicken pesto wraps with lettuce, basil pesto, and cheese had an amazing cross section.

Another great sandwich was the Double Up burger, which is two burger patties sandwiched between classic American cheese, and typical burger items such as bacon, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo.

Honestly, Prohibition is great place to be, having great food in a small space, and even better drink options. For the food that you’re getting, prices are moderate as most entrees on the brunch menu and the regular menu range from between $15-20 dollars each, not including drinks. Come down with a friend or a couple during the weekday or on a weekend, or even at night to just enjoy some great food, great drinks, and a great atmosphere.

I’d give Prohibition an 8.5/10.
